The Historic Queen Mary Then and Now

Another grand adventure for the Cornelius family.  Knowing two of my passions are photography and history my husband knocked it out of the park for Mother's Day.  That Saturday we started our adventure by picking up my special needs Daughter, Ashley, and headed to the beach.  It has been my dream to take her back to the ocean ever since we visited St Augustine in 2004.

Ashley doesn't fly so I never dreamed I would be able to get her back to the beach but since moving her here to California last year that dream is so much closer.  It is true that the simple pleasures in life are the best.

Now for the Queen Mary
They started building this majestic ship in 1930 and it had it's maiden voyage in 1936.  She proudly sailed with an elite guest list, stars such as Clark Gable and Bob Hope.  She was the queen of luxury until, in support of war, 3 years later she was transformed into a troop ship.  She actively served in the WWII until 1947 when she was once again restored to her former splendor and set sail as the luxury ship she had been intended to be.  In 1967 she sailed her last voyage and landed in Long Beach California where she is now a museum and hotel.  For more information on the Queen Mary go to:  http://www.queenmary.com/history/our-story/
